tyildirim: Ridding Spam and Changing To WordPress Using Rent-a-coder

I had to turn off my blog comments a couple of years ago because the flow of spam was so high I couldn’t stay on top of deleting it, and the type of comment being posted became too revolting (promoting incest sites, etc).
I hated having to lose the feedback from readers and resented the scum who forced me into it with their low-cost, unwanted adverts.
For a long time I’d also wanted to change to WordPress, but having to sort spam from good comments was too large a job, given there was over 4,500 comments. I tried a few methods, but had to abandon it due to a lack of time.
I decided to try out the rent-a-coder site to see if that route could help.
After writing and posting the spec, I waited for the flood of bids (I decided not to fix a price, but let the market fight it out). Underwhelmed by the single bid that I had, I thought on it, swapped some message with the coder and decided to go ahead at $150.
The whole process has been pretty smooth, but if you’re thinking of doing the same, be aware that a fair degree of attention is required (you are after all managing a project) - but nothing like what the amount of time you would need to put in if you’d done the work yourself.
If you’re looking for a similar project, I’d recommend using tyildirim (or Turker Yildrim as he’s known in the real world) as he’s done good work.
The transition is the reason I’ve not been posting recently.
The look and feel of the blog is one I grabbed, which I may tickle with, or chuck out in favour of another.
