STOP BU$H Rally, London
20th November 2003 by Simon
I happened to be around Aldwich, London today at about 2pm this afternoon, when the STOP BU$H rally was starting up.
There was a huge cross section of good humoured people on it. The actual numbers of the people attending is a bone on contention. Originally the police said there was 30,000 protesters, which was clearly way off the mark, then they readjusted this to saying there was over 100,000. The Stop the War Coalition, who were one of the organisers, said they thought there was over 200,000. Either way it certainly is the largest demonstration every to take place in London on a work day.
As the rally pasted the end of Downing street (where Blair and Bush were meeting), there was a huge increase in volume in the chants - George Bush Terrorist!. What no-one realised at the time was that Bush had left via the back gate as the rally came over Westminster bridge, five mins before they actually arrive - very “fortunate timing” on his behalf.
The rally gathered at Trafalgar Square and fill the whole place. Following a series of well received speeches, it culminated in the toppling of a statue of George Bush, in a parody of Saddam Hussein, raising a huge cheer.

Spikol - is that comment pro-war or anti-war? It can be read either way.

Wow John … that’s quite a few shots you got there.
Interesting idea to try and get George Bush arrested for crimes against humanity.
