Spain-bound pepper fans - beware

Having lunch with a Spanish friend yesterday, I commented on her Salt and Pepper pots, which were shaped like light bulbs. It turns out that contrary to the English norm, Spaniards put pepper in the pot with a single hole in the top and salt in the multi-holed one, as they hardly ever put pepper on their food, but pile the salt on.

I wonder why I have not noticed this before, being keen on pepper. Well worth knowing if you too are a pepper fan and you planning on travelling to Spain.

It made me wonder - how many other countries does this also apply to?

Since you asked, Greeks also have the salt and pepper pots the “wrong” way around - it must be a Mediterranean thing.
