Six-wheel cars come around again
29th April 2004 by Simon
Engadget are reporting on the Covini C6W, which has six-wheels.
It does indeed look crazy, if not the product of a mad photoshop session. It reminds me of the Panther 6, which when releases in 1977 appeared even more out of this world - especially as it was reported to do over 200mph and cost close of £40,000 (that’s when £40k _was_ £40k, in fact 153,273.76 in 21st century money)
I remember seeing one in Panther’s Park Lane car showroom and nearly fainting with excitement (extreme cars did that to me in those days). I dashed in a shot a couple of photos, which must be in a shoe box somewhere.
I’ve dragged around a bit and found some further info on the Panther 6 and a model of one by Tomica

yay for six wheels
Hi Simon,
if You happen to stumble over those pics of the Covini C6W some day I would be too happy if You could send me some digital copies of them, as I would like to model it with a 3D-Modeler like 3D-Studiomax but I’m missing information, how the car looks like in detail and from behing.
best regards and thanks
tak
Does anyone know what happened to the two panthers?

Thanks for the incentive for starting my digging. I’m going through a _gradual_ (and currently it is very gradual) process of digitising all digit-isable bits.
All analogue photos are current boxed up in a room that we call the box room. Not box because it’s small, but box because it is _full_ of boxes.
Summary - it may/will take quite some time.
Hi Simon!
I will pay for digital copy of the Phantom Six photo!
Please search in your shoeboxes!

The Elf-Tyrell and March F1 cars were 6-wheelers, as was the Panther, ValueProgress, Covini, and Lady Penelope’s limo (from the UK Thunderbirds TV show). I’m sure I’m leaving out some good exampes, but the only successful 6-wheelers were the German Panzerspahwagens of WW II.
