Resetting your XBox Live password

I received my Xbox Live UK beta (XBL) bits through before xmas and played it furiously - then xmas happened. I came back to XBL today and couldn’t remember my password, even after trying many different combinations.

I called the offifical Microsoft support line and the people I spoke to did not have a record of anyone calling before who had forgotten their password and they didn’t know how to reset it.

After some digging around I found the answer.

Start your Xbox without a disk in it, navigate to the Xbox Live setup screen, go to the password section and enter what you think is the password. If incorrect, it will display a message and give you the option of OK or Reset. Click Reset and it will ask you for the last four digits on the credit card you’ve registered with XBL. If correct, you can then enter your own new password.

i turned on the parental control unit on but now i forgot the password i was just wondering if you know how you would reset that so i can play games again

Jeff - I don’t know if this will reset the parental controls of your Xbox, make it quietly explode, or do nothing what so ever, but it’s mentioned on quite a few sites, including pinkpiggies

Reset parental controls:
Go to “Settings” and highlight the “Parental Control” option. Then, press X, Y, L, X at the passcode screen to reset the parental control setting to the default value.

I just bought an xbox from ebay, and it was configured with parental controls. I used the method above (X, Y, L, X) and it let me in to disable the password…

Hi I have A broblem. I use parental controls. But my lil’ brother tried the combination and now he knows that password. When I change that password then he trie again. I need something hard combination. I need help.

Guy’s… Anyone who is wishing to reset their Xbox Live passcode should simply delete their profile and recover it again. Check the Microsoft Knowledge Base article below for detailed instructions.

PS: Anyone trying hijack someone’s account, doing this won’t work don’t bother trying.

I have my original Xbox and my subscription has ended on my XBL account. When I go to access my account it says that I have to read important mail before I can sign in. I press OK, and then it says there are no messages for you to read. Then it returns me to the main menu. What’s up with that?
