Red Lion Hotel in Henley - Petty Charges
17th November 2004 by Simon
I spent today at the TAHI conference, where I was on a panel. It was a really interesting insight in to all that is happening in the world of connecting all sorts of devices to wired/smart homes.
As I attended the opening dinner the night before, I stayed at fifteen-century The Red Lion Hotel in Henley. The room were pretty comfortable, although I was a little surprised that it didn’t have a shower, just a bath - all part of the old-world charm I suppose.
I got there at around 6pm to check in, and as is normal in hotels, I was offered a morning newspaper, that I thought would be good over breakfast. As TAHI had booked a number of rooms I paid the ‘reduced’ rate of £110 for the night.
In the end I didn’t read the paper as I was catching up on email over breakfast. When I was paying the bill I was amazed to see that they charged me £1 for the newspaper.
General tip to hotels - if you’re offering a premium service at a premium price, don’t be petty and charge people for the inconsequential. It just puts their back up.
