Oybike in the flesh
30th January 2005 by Simon
I dropped by Olympia this afternoon to watch Stephen Parkins-Knight cook up a storm at Viva Espana. He’s at his element with a crowd - loves it. As soon as Steve says Thank you, the audience zoomed to the front to try and get a sample of his food. He really should be on TV. He would be a very happy man.
On the way there I came across an Oybike outside Olympia. I’d commented on Oybike before as it appeared such a great idea, but this was the first I’d see on the street.
They’re certainly distinctive with a purposeful lock on them, both designed to reduce their steal-ability I imagine.
Another clever idea is, leaving them on the street acts as great advert for the service.
On reflection, I wonder if they’re missing their biggest trick with this. Perhaps they should be selling the advertising on the bikes - it could be a significant income stream for them.
