On plane Skype via Connexions
2nd October 2005 by Simon
Holy sh*t, I’ve been sitting on this plane for 3-4 hours, reading all of the news papers and books I’d bought in the airport. for a change I flicked through the leaflets in the seat pocket in the vain hope of finding out something about Tokyo and found they had onboard WiFi.
I couldn’t get my credit card out quick enough, it being a first for me.
Of course I had to try Skype first … it being just short of midnight in the UK now … most people appeared offline as were US people too, surprisingly.
Eventually got to speak to Sal. Call quality very good, when I could hear her. Came to the conclusion that noise from the engines at this end was too much, and therefore interupting call. Tried to cover mic on iBook with my thumb (as can’t appear to mute mic input through software). Sounded lots better then.
I’ve signed up for Internet access for the 12-hour flight at $30. Now I’ve got to stay awake to make sure I get value from it! The reality is that the battery on the laptop will give up first.
I’m aware this isn’t the first time someone been on a plane with WiFi … but it’s excited me.
