Microsoft virus email
3rd November 2003 by Simon
I received this mail at the weekend. It was looking for all the world like Microsoft was sending me a security update. There was Microsoft branding, legitimate links to their site and the email address it came from was msdn.com and as we all know, that is the Microsoft Developers Network.
The only problem was that it was all fake. Microsoft don’t send out patches via email, for the very reasons that sending out emails that look like they from other people, is very easy to do.
If you hadn’t guessed, this mail isn’t from Microsoft, it’s a new attempt to get innocent users to infect their machines. Obviously if you get one, just delete it.
