Met Police codes for Special Operations
29th November 2003 by Simon
What with more talk in the UK Media of special police operations in the UK currently, and talk of arrests by Special Branch of terrorist suspect, (even if some of them are released without charge) I thought it would be worth knowing the police Specialist Operations codes.
Specialist OperationsI was aware of SO19, the firearms unit, which had a base in Old Street, but came across a full, comprehensive explanation. BTW the letters SO are pronounced S, O rather than so.SO1 International and Organised Crime

SO4 National Identification Bureau
SO5 Miscellaneous Forces Index
SO6 Fraud Squad
SO7 Support
SO8 Forensic Science Laboratory
SO9 Flying Squad
SO10 Crime Operations Group
SO11 Criminal Intelligence Branch
SO12 Special Branch
SO13 Anti-Terrorist Branch
SO14 Royalty Protection Branch
SO15 Royal Palaces Division
SO16 Diplomatic Protection Branch
SO17 Palace of Westminster Division
SO18 Police National Computer Bureau
SO19 Force Firearms Unit
SO20 Forensic Medical Examiners Branch

You really do need to get a life, mate.
Says you Mark. You read them and then bothered to post a comment.
This gave me what I was looking for - Thanks
If it werent those that post this sort of info the web would be full of nothing - except maybe porn and other useless stuff.
Thanks very useful resource for my book research, but I believe special branch and the anti terrorist branch (SO12 and 13) have now been amalgamated into the counter terrorism command (SO15)
