You just can't hypothesis about something that may or may not happen. Rodney Marsh (Source: Colemanballs, Private Eye)

Beyond sick.

The photograph was obtained by ABC News, which identified the dead Iraqi as Manadel al-Jamadi.

Harman, 26, is leaning over the corpse which is packed in ice. The man’s mouth is slightly opened and a small patch of blood can be seen on his right temple. His eyes are sealed closed with tape.

According to evidence from Specialist Jason Kenner, obtained by ABC News, the man was brought to the prison by US Navy Seals in good health.

Spc Kenner said he saw extensive bruising on the man’s body when he was brought out of the showers dead.

I think this photo is sick and should never have been taken.

  2. on 21 May 2004 at 7:07 pm Captain Bakermuffin!!!!!

now, this picture was kind of hard to take because they couldnt get the guy to smile. so instead they got the girl to smile for him. it worked pretty good if i do say so myself. so anyway…i like pie.

  3. on 26 May 2004 at 2:05 pm Simon Perry

Rick - it is a sick photo, you’re right. What is sicker is that he may have been beaten to death and that a member of the US military found it amusing.

  4. on 12 Jul 2004 at 8:02 pm Calvin Smith

How do you suppose the Iraqi would be posing were the girl dead instead? Do you think he would be showing grief or remorse? I think not. Human nature is the same the world over. War is not pretty, no matter who or what. Give her a break. He would be doing the same over her.

  5. on 10 Aug 2006 at 8:39 pm live maisey

I think every religeous book should be burned. By now it seems that the human race would have all agreed on this. But no! Some archaic peoples still believe that there is a god. This is truly depressing. Think of all we could accomplish as united group! Instead, there are some that insist upon fighting over a piece of land with some temple ruins on it dating back only a few thousand years. I say we gather up all religeous items and burn them. Then we can progress as humans should and not be held as a slave to a god that does not exist.

You bunch of sickos - If I ever saw that bitch id fucking feed her to the dogs - I can’t believe you guys are supporting the evil sadistic cow

  7. on 27 May 2007 at 10:02 pm david

THE PHOTO IS A PHOTOSHOP OF TWO SEPARATE PHOTOS

THE GIRL IS NOT LEANING OVER THE BODY - SEACH ON GOOGLE

  8. on 28 May 2007 at 11:17 pm Sarah, Iran

The girl needs a psychiatrist. She is drastically suffering from Sadism. And probably the same case for many other US soldiers whose hormones secretion leads to sadistic deed in order to be satisfied through a shortage of healthy sex occasions in Iraq.

  9. on 28 May 2007 at 11:41 pm Simon

@David - got any links we could follow?

  10. on 26 Jun 2007 at 9:27 pm Imogene

I can’t believe some of the things I’m reading here! First of all, yes, it IS NOT an appropriate picture. BUT … if it were HER who were the captured soldier in this photo, the other guy would be holding her decapitated head in his hand and a bloody pocket knife in the other yelling Allahuakbar! As for the morons who are commenting how they would “feed her to the dogs”, you’re no better. I wish people would realize the way our men and women are having to live and survive over there. Sleeping with one eye open at all times, IF YOU GET TO SLEEP AT ALL! There is danger EVERYWHERE! Imagine if you wondered every day if you were going to make it to work, or the store without being BLOWN UP! Some of you boneheads need to shut up for once in your ignorant lives.

  11. on 29 Jun 2007 at 2:48 am ulf

:( how sad today its normal to smile at the dead, tommorow we will sleep with them, and in a week make family with the dead :( very normal yes

  12. on 25 Jul 2007 at 9:06 am Sarah

    Dear Imogene

It’s right bout of headaches I get When hear about a US soldier has shot himself dead in Iraq…, tho no one did ever invite your men and women -to Iraq- who have to live and survive over there, Sleeping with one eye open.

  13. on 18 Aug 2007 at 5:23 am Ezra Cohen

Imogene: I saw your comment and couldn’t stop myself of commenting, very short comment. I think it is all wrong what’s happening and no way to justify such horrible things. The United States of America took over Iraq and killed its people, messed up the entire country, and you justify this sick act in the picture. So, we have to be bad and murderers because others are so!? Have you asked yourself why others are acting this way? The whole war thing is a big mistake, that made us, the Americans feel ashamed of having a terrorist president like Bush. Thanks.

  14. on 18 Aug 2007 at 5:27 am aymani

I can’t believe that somebody would justify for such psycho act. Let’s work for global peace instead of this sick comment, Imogene!

Plus, why would somebody kill and say “Allahuakbar” if you are not attacking and killing their own people? Imagine somebody invade your own country or town, what would you do? Iraqis are NOT terrorists, they are defending their own land from the real terrorists, and you know what I mean.

Yes for Global Peace, NO for Hate and Terrorism and stupid comments!

  15. on 25 Aug 2007 at 8:17 pm Sarah

1,2,3,… Sounds easy to separate these innocent numbers while they yell out desperately : “hey!don’t wall us off,we do sound like been moving apart yet we ain’t really, can’t even assume an infinitesimal gap betwixt “.
    It makes me just fantasizing,
what if there was no geopolitical frontier to fence us off?
What if all of us arm in arm would make a miraculous recovery to this inflamed, gloomy earth?
What if could i,as a muslim, would marry a christian and give birth to a jew?
Who’d be my prophet then, when craved to kiss hands of mohamad, feet of the moses, shoulders of the christ?
Which soldier would I desire to march fore and whom to retreat?
Which patrol would I feel pleased that his copter has been shot down in baghdad?
Just a girl flying freely aloft across the ugly frontiers still alive wants to be multireligious, but fears,,, I fear to become kind of multireligious despite of my belief that it’s a good solution to gather people around to oppose cruel systems worldwide.

  16. on 17 Oct 2007 at 6:49 am PFC Stuk bt cnt gt out!

Cant believe any of you! None of you have any experience in politics or war. You all need to take what you see and just be glad it isnt you. Yes, I am in this mess in the military and i don’t support the smiling and cockyness but just be glad it’s not you. It could be me tomorrow but who whould give a damn about the young soldier that had to support his family. You all just sit back and keep your mouth shut, let the real men do the work. oh PS Have someone to hunt you everyday. Don’t judge us till you’ve done it. Could be worse, Could be Korea!

  17. on 25 Oct 2007 at 6:39 am Alex

I just don’t believe this picture. How anyone from any country do that. I am American, but I hope she gets killed and has some Iraqi do a thumbs up over her head. That is extremely rude.

  18. on 26 Oct 2007 at 5:34 pm Sarah

    Oh “Real Man”, excuse me?
Do you live in THIS world?

  19. on 31 Oct 2007 at 2:06 pm JK

Who are you people, citizens of the U.S., to comment this image?! PFC Stuk bt cnt gt out! has the right to tell all of you off. Soldiers over there go through many phases in combat and if a loved one or a friend is lost, revenge can be the case among many others. Unless you’ve been over there, or are going, keep your mouth shut. You have no right to judge soldiers who are caught in these images. None of you understand.

  20. on 05 Nov 2007 at 9:52 am Sarah

ok, I personally shut my mouth, bye

  21. on 06 Nov 2007 at 11:26 am The thing

Even if i want to understand i can’t.I know soldiers have tough time there but there must be a respect for dead people. As i read before this man was brought healthy by U.S seals ,who and what is cause of his death?Someone should be questioned over there about who killed this man and for what purpose? As i know killing the PoW’s is strongly prohibited and if this thing goes unpunished i can only imagine what else is going there that public doesn’t know!
About the girl i think she has some psycho problems.Even if she has lost someone close there, there is no reason why would she show such disrespect toward death people. She is what i call a terrorist. If someone kills my relative that doesn’t mean that i have right to take gun and kill everyone i see on the street.
    This just ain’t right…

  22. on 09 Nov 2007 at 6:52 pm SW

It amazes me that no one has bothered to ask who that dead man was. If you have any knowledge of what a Navy SEAL does then logic would tell you he must have been a very wanted individual. If that is true, logic would tell you also that he was probably a terrorist himself. If he was a terrorist then he didn’t have a uniform, which made him ineligible to be treated like a POW under the Geneva Conventions and (in my book) to be accorded any human rights. Considering what they do to innocent civilians in the name of God(I’ve seen the videos of them cutting heads off). AS Patton once said, “You don’t murder animals, you kill them!”
Anyone over there who doesn’t wear a uniform and shoots at an American soldier deserves to be shot, period.
Anyone who thinks that if you treat them nicely is living a fantasy. THEY WANT TO KILL US! They don’t give a rats ass about your sense of fairness and civility. They’ll use it against you every time.
As for the women standing over him and smiling. If she is commenting on another terrorist dead then more power to her and her comrades in arms.

I’m getting so sick of Panzy Ass arm chair quarterback Generals. If you aren’t willing to go there or read about it from the lips of the soldiers fighting it, Then Shut up and let them do their job. They know what to do and how to do it.

GOD BLESS ‘EM from a Vet.

  23. on 13 Nov 2007 at 3:33 am Chris

Good for all the veterans speaking their mind. I agree, if that was a known, wanted terrorist, then who are we to say whether or not the soldier’s feelings of elation shouldn’t progress to this. Face this fact: WAR IS UGLY! Seeing your friends blown up or shot at everyday is not fun. Not to mention all the emphasis we put on treating our prisoners right while the ENEMY is showing live videos of Americans being tortured and mutilated. Do you really want this woman soldier dead for progressing to the point where the dead enemy doesn’t inspire any remorse in her? Then you are worse than any of them you non combatant cowards! Go play your video games and watch Friends while the real heroes protect your ass day in and day out.

Thanks to all the soldiers still out there giving their lives for a just cause. GO USA!

  24. on 23 Nov 2007 at 7:07 pm Crystal

U know what, there is no way any of us can know what its like to be out there on the front lines sleeping with one eye open..i am speaking as the sister of a Marine, daughter of a former Army Sergeant, and a human being. Do u really think what she did in that picture is right?? There is no way to justify what she did. I understand that being in the middle of a war is not cool at all, hell some of our soldiers even go crazy out there! But still, we as people have morals and respect. This was really disrespectful and wrong in so many ways. I really feel for this girl because she didnt ask to be put in that predicament, but she is a grown, sane woman and knew what she was doing, so there’s no excuse…look, i love this country just as much as the next person, but this is why people get the misconception of AMERICA. The fact is, she was wrong and dirty thats why these people commenting are so upset…..but she is also an american soldier in an unfamiliar land and under alot of stress and pressure to do her job to the best of her abilities, and keep a strong mind, although this is and early sign of insanity!

  25. on 23 Nov 2007 at 7:10 pm Crystal

If dont agree with what i just wrote, than u can probably just kiss my ass…thats the beauty of being an American…freedon of speech! crystal_dlishious@hotmail.com if you have a problem we can work it out!

  26. on 06 Dec 2007 at 4:37 pm Jk

Well how bout I just tell all of you what it’s like over there when I get back. I’m about a month from joining and I don’t even need to tell you that all these opportunities to even comment on this photo. It should be none of our buiness to judge what’s going on over there. There’s nothing we can do about it.

  27. on 17 Dec 2007 at 9:48 pm Jk

I’ve been thinking… it breaks my heart to whitness the comments on this photo. Personally, I dont think I should have commented in the first place, BUT someone has to remind one that what they do has a purpose. Protect the American way of Freedom, of which that Freedom has been earned by the men and women like this woman above AND THEN given to the people (you and me) just so we can sit on our asses and criticise their duties. It would take an experiences one to tell of those duties and with common sense, I can tell you that Hollywood doesn’t even come close to what they see. Yes Freedom of speech is in order, but maybe some empathy for the men and women that voluntailly lay down their lives every second that time ticks. It makes me feel all warm inside to witness such support especially when I’m weeks form joining. Thanks guys. You’re a bunch of good Americans….

  28. on 19 Dec 2007 at 8:54 am katana luchinga

the us army and the whole community advocating for such evil are such a bunch of morons what the heck do you guys gain by killing JUST GROW UP and that mother fucker who said there is no GOD should am from Africa and its great how you americans do express how primitive you are why dont you convert to islam and worship that stupid mohamed guy who advocates for jihad.praise gGOD ooh sane people

  29. on 19 Dec 2007 at 2:58 pm jk

What does that have to do with anything? Where does it say in that photo that it’s about religion? Bring religion out of this. We’ll just offend everybody.

Dead Iraqi soldiers…AKA: Rebels without a pulse..
Sick photo, sick soldiers, sick war, sick world..
Sick people for looking at this picture….
    ‘Nuff said..

Merry christmas, and be nice to each other

  31. on 29 Dec 2007 at 9:05 am thinkingreal

First of all if this is just a sick joke created by photo shop then thats just wrong. But taking this picture as genuine then I would have to say that it is very cruel…I don’t think there is any excuse for this type of behavior from anyone! regardless of their present situation were all in control of our own actions. This woman and her comrades made their own decisions to demonstrate hateful behavior. Keep in mind that this woman’s actions and even the actions of a other soldiers in the past are not an accurate example of the behavior of all U.S soldiers. As for the comments above the U.S did not go into Iraq and mess everything up..you do not have an accurate understanding of the culture/past history of Iraq before the U.S came. If you think that taking sadam Hussein out of power was messing things up, then you are just a cruel as the picture above. Bombs are horrible i wish the U.S could have just left it alone regardless of the fact that these people were already experiencing extreme violence and even murder from a horrible dictator. But we got involved, nonetheless, and unfortunately our soldiers are serving as a “armed red cross” serving water, food, clothes, volunteering at orphanages, and protecting the non-violent people’s of iraq as well as patrolling, training iraqi police, so iraq can be self-sustained without a mass amount of U.S soldiers present. Keep this war in perspective…the iraqi military/police had no running water, no electricity on there bases, each solider shared a gun between 5 other men, no shoes, no uniform/ body armor, no food, and were not payed for their presents. We are literally rebuilding this country…the question is will all of our efforts work in trying to civilize/stabilize a country that has been at war for decades???

  32. on 05 Jan 2008 at 1:40 am Tony

another war crime that US had done in Iraq or lets another fuckin pic that americans r insulting Iraqi people in the name of LIBERTY !!!!

  33. on 13 Feb 2008 at 1:26 am x5nl4

The U.S. Government is far away to bring democracy in the world. It’s known at highest levels that the goal is to grant controlo of primary energy resources and rough stuff. That’s it.
They should simply stop pretending to have a sort of religius messianic mission in this planet.

  34. on 06 Apr 2008 at 12:30 pm grumpyoldman

If in fact this photograph is genuine, and I seriously doubt that it is, then the girl and the person behind the camera should consider this.

A picture like this can only assist your enemies because you are giving them ammunition to use against you in the war of minds. All moral considerations aside, you are assisting your enemies and on this ground alone it is an extremely foolish thing to do.

  35. on 09 Jun 2008 at 2:17 pm None

This is wrong. I would like to join the army, but not be the one who beats prisoners to death -.-

BTW:Don’t Look up U.S. Soldier, there is a sick picture on the 1st page even with Moderate Search on.

  36. on 18 Jun 2008 at 10:00 pm Ty

Of course we have a right to judge. Wrong is wrong. If the roles were reversed on that picture, there’d be an exponentially bigger outcry. Just because it happened to one of them doesn’t make it justifiable in any way.

As for the victims at Abu Ghraib being terrorists or deserving of this kind of treatment; keep in mind that we’re in THEIR country. How would we react to an overwhelming military occupation of the US. We`d fight it by any means necessary, which if our army was already defeated, would mean INSURGENCY. Guerrila warfare, terrorism, whatever it took and we wouldn`t be patriots if we didn`t fight the occupation to the last.

And why are we over there killing civilians, wrecking their country, and inspiring more US hate in the first place? WMD and AL Queda? Nah, just oil and good old fashioned empire building.

  37. on 25 Jul 2008 at 11:14 pm S.A.

Those who are blaming our troops, our own men and women, for the destruction of Iraq… obviously you weren’t paying much attention, because that country was already screwed up before we ever got there. Why do you think we’re there? Without us they would be leading far worse lives. We don’t kill civilians, their own people are killing each other. They strap bombs to their own children and send them into chaos.

And look it up, he wasn’t beaten to death. He died by “Palestinian Hanging” (hung by the wrists).

What methods of torture do you think the enemy would use on us?

Hanging by the wrists, and a few slaps across the face?

No. Try removal of limbs (such as the hand), drilling through the hand, removing eyes, tying the victim to the back of a car and dragging them along the rocky dirt, blowtorching skin, oh, hot iron to the skin… don’t forget, placing the victim’s head in a vice. Need I go on?

America is not the inhumane one.

  38. on 08 Aug 2008 at 8:59 pm Gordon

Nothing wrong with this photo. It would only disturnb you if you are a compete and utter pussy (which is seems most of you are)

  39. on 08 Aug 2008 at 9:04 pm Gordon

Oh and Simon Perry (you big girl) Lets hope the bastard was beatn to death by a Marine (with a ten inch boot). It could not have happend to a nicer guy.

The comment form S.A. is spot on…

Pussies like Simon only get to speak their special brand of garbage becuase our guys in uniform are keeping is girlie ass safe

Whats the point here? So what if she’s doin that. Pissin and moanin isn’t gonna make things better. This is just one photo of a soldier doin somethin that she probably knew it was wrong, but didn’t care. Tomorrow’s another day for them and quite frankly, more dangerous and mind boggling. To be honest, I’d probably end up doin something crazy too! With all that they see and do, cannot be matched by even the movies we’ve seen. I’ve said it before… NONE of you understand

Perhaps the photo is not real?

Regardless, there is a fine line that the military and the individual must walk if they want to stay on the ‘moral high ground’ in conflict.

The fact that we’re looking for this high ground (since we’re talking about an invading army) shows the situation cannot be Black & White:

If shots like these (it’s not the first) are not treated as inappropriate, then the military starts to look like an irreverant militia.

It’s true that soldiers do need an opportunity to muck around, and act a bit crazy at times - but to keep their actions professional, shots like this should not get to the public.

As for Gordon’s comment; yes, these people are fighting to protect Simon’s right to speak his mind. So why insult him for making use of that right?

  43. on 06 Sep 2008 at 11:39 pm Kevin

More than half of you people on here are dumbasses the iraqi terrorist execute people on video and send it to the US, also Ezra Cohen, America took over Iraq and killed its people? thats because the people in iraq bombed us and killed ours, were not killing the innocent. Its a war on terro so we are killing terrorist not Iraqs people. Also Crystal dont speak for every one when you say that know one knows what its like in Iraq because im related to a Marine also and hes showed me pictures and videos of what its like over there just because im not there doesnt mean i don’t have an idea, my cousin had to spend christmas in the desert dogging bulliets because of men like this in the picture so you should be smiling that hes dead.
