Isle of Wight OpenStreetMap A Success
11th May 2006 by Simon

Great to be able to help out with the OpenStreetMap posse with their visit to the Isle of Wight last week.
Pleased Andrew Turner, MP for the IoW, could make it along and that the County Press (the IoW paper) sent photographer Georgina to capture the moment. It’s great to see stuff you’ve lined up comes off as you’d hoped.
A big thank-you to Steven Munn at the Quay Arts Centre who kindly lent their conference room and free access to the WiFi, also to Nikki Barber in Garmin’s PR who sorted out a GPSMap 60CSx and an eTrex at very short notice (Watch out for review on these at Digital-Lifestyles). Garmin got some icing on the cake too, as the Cx was featured in the MP press shots.
The 40 people who made it down in the end were a really friendly bunch who should be congratulated for dedication to the cause and for mapping all of the major roads in the Island after just one day. Hugely impressive.
Shows that getting to a public owned map is highly achievable.
