iBook to Powerbook - Self-upgrade
13th November 2005 by Simon
As I think I mentioned, I’ve switched back to Apple for my main machine, after about 20 years of PC usage, following my original Mac Plus period.
I bought an 12″ iBook laptop rather than a Powerbook. The reasons were sound.
- Anything bigger that a 12″ machine isn’t as portable as I need - even at that size, I think the iBook is too heavy.
- Apart from the DVD burn I really didn’t need the power of the Powerbook.
It frustrated my that Apple tried to force you to buy a Powerbook, just to get DVD burning.
Hardmac has an in-depth article showing how you can change your iBook to the memory/hard drive/etc spec of the Powerbook.
One of the items they cover is fitting the DVD burned. As to wether I’ll find the time to make the change is another matter.
