HoC meeting: Tom Watson
14th July 2003 by Simon
HoC meeting: Tom Watson, the first blogging UK MP. Officially you can’t communicate when you’re in the HoC chamber - people TXT from there but it’s against the rules.
He claimed blogs are not a vote gaining ploy (he was later asked if he would have been described as “a prominent backbencher” in the Guardian today, if he didn’t have a blog). Blogging opens political participation.
Once the MP’s written something and they’ve been archived, they can’t renege of their writings.
Someone’s asked him “What will you do when you get a senior position?”, he responded that he’s just been promoted to be a PPS, so he’ll let us know [on the strenghth of this meeting, I think he’ll continues].
