f*cking promo for Channel 4
12th March 2004 by Simon
There’s a series of promo pieces that have been running on the UK Channel 4 for a couple of weeks. People who appear in shows on the channel answering questions knitted together. This morning a BBC friend passed me a link to an unnamed video work, where the question was obviously “What’s your favourite swearword“. Don’t be shocked if you hear a swear word or two. Watch it for your favourite.
I imagine it’s pretty popular and just gulping down bandwidth, because when I’ve just looked at it again, the current video is much more compressed - and they’re cunningly added a Send this to a Friend form. This has viral written all over it.
I’m not going to hypothesise on who was behind this, Ch4 or a sneaky editor, smuggling it out - I’ll leave that for others.
Update: Thanks to the update from RealRadix, who tells me the previous link has gone offline, but it should still be available from the channel 4 site

C4 are behind it - the source url is now:
http://www.channel4.com/ads/index1.html
And it’s stopped working - too many hits I guess.
In fact they have a hidden hit counter on the page (http://one.123counters.com/counter/index.php?u=harmonypark&s=scoreboard) which is currently reading 836,824 - about 1,000 up from when I started typing this…
Thanks for clarifying that and spotting the counter - I guess this is excluding the hots on the original site. It’s 7659 up in the last four-ish hours - not bad about 2k/hour on a Saturday night.
