`Encrypted Shared Media’ standard

I’ve been a keen user of connected.com backup service since the late 90’s and, given the service copies your chosen data file to a remote hard drive somewhere on the Internet it’s initially concerned my data would be vulnerable. The fact that it’s encrypted before it leaves my machine and is stored encrypted was enough to satisfy me.
Possibily getting out of the blocks a little late but welcome none the less, the IEEE are holding a workshop in December addressing an `Encrypted Shared Media’ standard which will have the catchy title - IEEE P1619(TM), “Standard Architecture for Encrypted Shared Media”.
Once complete, consumers are going to be able to use this as a yardstick when selecting a remote storage provider.
