Do not buy Symantec products
1st February 2004 by Simon
I paid for and downloaded Norton Anti Virus a while back, but following an upgrade from Windows 2000 to XP, I lost the application and download. I have been to the Symantec site a number of times to have a quick look for the link and had been unable to, which seemed peculiar.
On Friday I had a concerted effort to track it down. I had no joy with a download link, but did come across a form to write to them about problems with downloads. I wrote a little note explaining my situations and waited for a reply.
Today the reply arrived containing the following text
The reason you are not able to obtain a re-download of your purchase is that the Extended Download Warranty Service was not purchased with your download, and the time for download of your order has expired. Unfortunately, this means that in order to obtain the product, you will need to repurchase it.I am outraged that they will not allow me to re-download an application that I have paid for, especially as there is a near-zero incremental cost to offer that.
Well here is the outcome from their short-sited greed - I will NEVER buy another Symantec product again. Whenever anyone asks me for advice on computer software I will go out of my way to advise people not to buy Symantec products and explain why.
What fools - mistreating your customers is not a way to prosper in the 21st century.
A pox on their house.

Truly outrageous behaviour.
I’ve had to apply for a new serial number several times due to upgrades and I’ve always found the companies involved to be happy to help.
What cost to store and check your email address against a product?
Hi Simon, I hope its gone be a long hard struggle for Symantec, when You sue them.
I will post this in german on my blog an will spread the word. Alex
