Clearing your SPV

[This information is provided in good faith and it is totally up to you if you use it or not]

I’ve been trying to return my SPV to Orange since the end of November after not finding it right for me, but some how each of the five times I asked for a returns bag, it didn’t arrive. Persistence pays and I now have a back to send it back in, but first I wanted to wipe all of the information from the phone as it had my address book, emails and a couple of photo’s on it. I could have gone through it by hand but wanted to find a faster, more definite method.

Orange support gave me the following details as to how to perform a Hard reset of the phone, and I thought other might find of useful.

_BEWARE_, this will wipe all of the information on your SPV.

There are a number of button on the left hand side of the SPV. Hold the button under power button, then power on with the original button still held down.

When the DOS-ish boot screen appears with two options on it, press and hold the Action button (the one in the middle of the cursor keys). A text menu will be displayed.

Select the bottom item, ‘Erase IPSM’ and press the Action button. The screen will clear and a few lines of text will appear and after waiting a minute or two of it doing its stuff, PASSED will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. Selecting the top left soft button (under PASSED) will take you back to the previous menu.

Cursor left and select End, which will take you to RGB test screen. Remove the battery, pause, replace and when your machine starts up again (which takes about 3 mins), it will be cleared.

Interestingly the version numbers for the Canary PV (possibly the makers name for the phone) is v0.91 and the diagnostics s/w is v0.81. As many people know, it is common practise in software development to name your version numbers under v1.0 if the software hasn’t publicly released - just a thought.

I’ve have tried the above just like you have advised only when I hold the record button down and power on ‘Card Found’ appears but I only get on option and that is press any key to enter boot loader. I then just go directly to the screen with the three colured bars on. Any ideas?

Danny & Mark - When I wrote this, my SPV was running the original version of the software and I believe the phones are now on a later version. I would suggest either going to MoDaCo as they have a very active support group or calling Orange SPV support, who are pretty good.

To the chap with the wee brother.
Please look for a very small program called SPVUnlock.exe
This will need to be run on an a Windows XP computer as it will NOT work on previous OS Versions.
Make sure u have ur phone connected via USB and then turn off ActiveSync on the computers Ctrl+Alt+Del.

It will then proceed to go up from 0% to 100% and will provide u with an unlock code,
U can then input this once u reboot the phone.
U should then be fine to use ANY sim.

Hope this info is of help.
