"The way England capitulated yesterday, it was as if they had given up." Geoffrey Boycott, Daily Telegraph (source:Colemanballs, Private Eye)

The latest Big Brother launched on Friday just past. As a side note - they appear to have finally discovered that it’s the characters in the play that brings it alive.

They’ve used this BB to draw viewer to their extra channel E4, which has recently made the move to free access via Freeview.

On E4 they show live coverage of the BB house (I bet the number of people paying to stream it via the Internet has plummeted, sorry Real) - but large periods of time are blanked out (with birds singing, etc), supposedly because what they are speaking about cannot be broadcast. This may be true, or it may be done to fabricate excitement.

Here’s an idea for a service - Designed for really hard core Big Brother viewers. Lip readers monitor the broadcast and provide a time-coded stream of text, so you never miss a word, even in BB want you too.

Yep, we’re out there. I’m a professional lip reader, and I’ve had requests from the “GP” (general public) to translate bits of stuff from television series that they’re curious about. However, as it is a pretty pricey endeavor, it’s usually beyond the financial scope of the average TV viewer (they suddenly realize they don’t care THAT much). But it can be done, depending on video quality and a whole host of other factors. Cheers!

Thanks Consuelo. Interesting to hear it from a professional.

I guess if the interest in finding out about what is being said is strong enough, it could be subscription service. With you doing it once and get paid many times :)
