Augmented reality

Research into “augmented reality” is producing some real-world instances of the technology.
The core idea is the user slips on a pair of glasses that has computer-generated information floating on top of the objects that the user see through them. For example, you look at a building and it’s address and phone number are tagged to it. This is achieved by combining a GPS, a video camera and a computer.
It’s primarily funded by the military as they see many application; for example street-fighting in foreign cities. After having learned a harsh lesson in Mogadishu where the local troops were able to make the US troops venerable –simply by removing the street signs and the US troops getting lost.
