"There's no magic formula that says A plus C equals X" - Terry Venables (source:Colemanballs, Private Eye)

I dropped in to the Green Park Audi showroom on my way back from the Norman Foster’s talk at the Royal Academy. They had the new A8 on show and it was interesting to see how tech’d up it was, beginning at the car entry and starting it.

The key is an RF key, so when you walk up to the car, it knows and when the drivers handle is touched the door will open. When you leave the car, you simply press the button under the drivers door handle and walk away.

Once in the drivers seat, the central console has a start button with a biometric fingerprint reader on it. This sets the mirrors, seats and the sir-conditioning settings to the fingerprint owners preferences, as well as starting the car. It was originally going to be used as the means to start the car, but this idea was dropped when the marketers could see the bad press when an A8’s owner has their finger cut off to steal the car.
