Astir Palace and Athens
2nd May 2006 by Simon
I was in Athens for the weekend, thanks to the IFA. They treated us very well by putting us in the lovely Hotel Nafsika at Astir Palace on the Saronic Gulf.
Actually, they completely spoilt us not only with the accommodation, but the events they laid on.
Athens is quite the densist city I have _ever_ seen. There are 4.5m people living in on a flat plane with four mountains surrounding it. It just goes on and on, as far as you can see. A look at Google maps will give you some idea.
The Acropolis was pretty amazing. You’re standing in front of a building that 2,500 years old and it demonstrated a total understanding of aesthetic, engineering and construction. I couldn’t help wondering - what the hell has mankind been doing in the 2,500 years since then?
