It was still a shock when George died. It was the last thing I thought he'd do - Angie Best

Another sub-culture

I’ve just found another sub-culture that I didn’t know existed. It’s been about months since the last one and that was mannequin-fanciers. They dressed them up in little outfits, posed them, took photos of them and didn’t document the rest. I guess their hand must have been occupied and not able to hold the camera. It’s not as shallow as it first appears, these things never are, there are various sub-sub-cultures such as people who only like ‘50 models, etc.

Well this new sub-culture is far less dark-sub and is therefore unlikely to get you into trouble if you happen to be reading this from a computer who traffic being monitored. This one is modding PC’s.

Of course I knew there were people who modded their machines, overclocked them and put them in fancy alu cases with neon lights in them. What I didn’t know was that people have gone to an awful lot of trouble to create amazing housings and hand-fashioned liquid cooling system for them.

In his pursuit for a silent PC, Jonatha, better known as BladeRunner, show in tremendous detail the time and dedication he had put into sculpting a liquid cooling system for a number of the components that will go into his machine.

Someone in Sweden, who’s name I couldn’t find, mounted a PC inside a 1/10 scale model of a Ford Focus Cosworth - complete with it’s connector wires coming neatly out of the back. It’s hugely impressive. At the top of the page, there’s a link to the inspiration for the project, a 1/8 model of a SkyLine GTR and photo’s of it being used at FragFest 4[big image]. **

I personally don’t care about my laptop. I don’t mean that I mistreat it, and of course I care very much for the data that’s on it. It’s light and functional. I ordered it, it turned up and when it wobbles, I call someone who fixes it.

For me, what they’re doing is a real lesson in dedication and passion. Next time I get frustrated with my PC, I’ll try and remember the sheer effort some people put into theirs.

** Sadly the SkyLine GTRPC was stolen in April 2002.

Just found this via a hit in my sites stats, I know its a year old now, but someone must have viewed it and clicked the link to my site. It’s a shame the net is over 50% driven by Sex, however there is a dedicated community for just about anything you want to do. I love it personally, and while I don’t want to bore those that are not interested the dedicated in “my” community are the creators of the current high performance tech. Forget large corporations with shed loads of funds, the current best performing CPU waterblock was designed developed a refined on discussion forms, (By Cathar & others), and produced by him. Of course it’s now being “copied” but Danger Den… On a lighter note I found a site where people like to dress in air tight rubber suits and inflate themselves……. honestly!! What ever blows your dress up is what I say ;-)
