"The way England capitulated yesterday, it was as if they had given up." Geoffrey Boycott, Daily Telegraph (source:Colemanballs, Private Eye)

AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript And XML), as I’m sure you’re aware is Asynchronous JavaScript and XML - the rather neat programming technique that make using Web sites a far better experience, by keeping the same Web page on the screen while dynamically updating the data on the screen.

Gmail is a good example, as is Google’s new RSS reader.

Am I the only one to find my machine slowing down when one or more of these sites are open on your machine?

It makes sense doesn’t it? More processing is now being done at the client end (your machine), as it’s the one that is figuring out what queries need to be run; issuing them; getting the data back and displaying it.

As Ajax apps proliferate beyond what we assume to be uber-tight programmers at Google, and shoddy code starts making its way on to your machine, gobbling up clock cycles, your previously fast-enough-for-browsing machine is going to be grounding into the dirt.

Perhaps we need a blog that measure the performance for each of the ajax offerings, giving them a rating.

I bet Intel loves the Ajax trend.
