I went along to Tate Modern yesterday to catch the first day of the new exhibit to inhabit the Turbine Hall. Bruce Mauman’s piece, called Raw Materials, is a pure audio installation containing nothing visual, beyond the flat panel speakers scattered down the length of the hall.

A while back Richard Jones came up with the great idea of using the 1Gb of storage that GMail provides free of charge. He called it GmailFS (Gmail Filesystem) and wrote it in Python. The only barrier to a lot of people using this was that Python isn’t commonly run on desktop machines.

I’ve been thinking about something similar to this for a while. MiGo have released software that enables you to load all of your data and personalisations form some computer, to any USB-equiped PC that use sit down at. All you need carry is a USB drive or a portable music player/iPod.
